DJ Toomp And Big Korey Kick Off Greg Street’s “Producers Week”!

Greg Street is doing something special this week! He’s teaching all of you music lovers a different side of the game! There’s more to the music industry than what you see on the television and hear on the radio! Greg Street is bringing you “Producers Week” to help you understand the behind the scenes of the business. Today Big Korey (of Big Oomp Camp) (left) and DJ Toomp (right) stopped by to update us on their latest projects!

Big Korey, the son of Big Oomp, is now 14-years-old, but at the age of 7 he could be seen (in the video below) in the studio with Jazze Pha making beats. This fresh young producer has worked with the likes of Gucci Mane, Three 6 Mafia, and Ace Hood, but he got his start with the up tempo hip hop dance song, “Walk It Out” by DJ Unk which he co-produced with DJ Montay.
Big Korey is now working on his own music. Undecided about the name of the mixtape, Korey is contemplating the title, “On My Way To The Grammy’s”! That would be the proper title to foreshadow the future of this young man’s career. Korey said he doesn’t confine himself to one genre of music while producing and doesn’t plan to stick to one genre on his own mixtape which will have Pop, R&B, and Hip-Hop music. He’s currently pursuing placement with Justin Bieber, B.O.B., and Flo Rida (he co-produced Flo Rida’s hit single “Get Low”).
This 8th grader attends Flat Rock Middle in Fayette County and said he plans to attend Full Sail University in Orlando, Fla. to study Systems Technology Application Development. He wants to work for Apple in the future. Hit him at @TheRealBigKorey on twitter.
Check out Big Korey at 7 years-old.

You know this man all too well. He’s your favorite rapper’s favorite producer! The Grammy Award-winning producer got his start at 13 years-old, DJing. But it wasn’t long before he and Raheem the Dream linked up in high school (DJ Toomp was a sophmore and Raheem was a senior) and made a hit. That day two students from D.M. Therrell made history and jump started their careers.
Since then, DJ Toomp has been the Executive Producer for T.I.’s first two albums, won Grammys for “What You Know” by Tip and “Good Life” by Kanye, produced for Mariah Carey, Jay-Z, Rick Ross, and produced 2 cuts from Wale‘s new album… And the list goes on! DJ Toomp will be working with Nas soon and said the only people he hasn’t worked with is Lil Wayne and Snoop Dogg, but hopes to work with them one day.
DJ Toomp says that after 26 years in the game, working with Kanye was one of his most memorable experiences.
“I like working with Kanye because it was real creating being done,” he said. “We started in Atlanta and ended up in New York and I was there for the whole production- it wasn’t like I was just throwing tracks together!”
Now working with No I.D., DJ Toomp said he uses Propellerhead Reason, Logic, and Akai MPC. But he has a few words for up and coming producers.
“Learn the actual business of music instead of just creating music- its just as important,” he said. “Plus you have to stay fresh- try not to do what everybody else is doing!”
We’ll be hearing more award winning music from these producers!
Stay Tuned…
