Greg Street’s “Producers Week”: Grand Finale!

Producer week ended in a major way! Greg Street had some of the hottest producers in the studio all week, but when Friday arrived… HE HAD EVERYONE UNDER ONE ROOF! J.U.S.T.I.C.E League were in the building, Kenny (l), Colione (m), and Rook (r) kicked off Friday, but the night got a little crazy!

Lody was in the building representing for CTE in a major way! At 20 years old, he is the youngest producer to receive 8 placements on a single album in a 90 day time frame. The producer of “Ballin” by Young Jeezy ft. Lil Wayne, Lody has produced 7 other tracks on TM103: Hustler’s Ambition.
Now working with Jay-Z, Plies, and J Cole, this young man said if he has a keyboard, Triton, and Phantom, he can do anything and encourages new comers to create their own realities.
“If you can dream it- you can do it!”

Nard (r) and B (l) want everyone pursuing a career as a producer to understand, “You need knowledge behind your craft,” B said. That’s interesting being that these two producers met at a music production school. But school wasn’t the start of music for Nard who said he played the drums, keyboard, saxophone, and clarinet in church.
Since entering the game together in 2004, these two have worked with Maino, T-Pain, B.O.B, and Roscoe Dash- to name a few. They are currently pushing Bobby V‘s single “Drop It” which they produced. Their final piece of advice was simply, “know that it’s not as easy as it seems on tv and it helps to know how to mix- to mold your own sound.”

Henny (l) and Dow Jones (r) make up Tha Bizness. These cousins from Seattle, WA have been in the game for 12 years. Collectively they believe their biggest hit was “My President is Black” by Young Jeezy, well most impactful because “Every Girl” by Young Money was just as big! But don’t forget about “No BS” by Chris Brown which was one of the two songs of 2010, that came from mixtapes, to receive a grammy!
These two are all about Mac products and Machine by Native Instruments when it comes to what they use to create music. But they also use live instruments. Henny plays keys, drums, and percussion and advises all musicians to do so.
“There are so many free programs out here for people to learn on that they forget that instruments make music,” he said. “Learn an instrument- it’ll take you further.”
Dow Jones, who got his start DJing said his piece of advice would be- “Get out in the streets. There’s no method to this! Get it how you live!”

Within the last three years Kane Beatz has brought you such hits as: “Bedrock” Young Money ft. Lloyd, “Reverse Cowgirl” by T-Pain, “Bottoms Up” Trey Songz ft. Nicki Minaj, “The Show Goes On” by Lupe Fiasco, and “Super Bass” by Nicki Minaj.
With Protools, FL Studio, Phantom and lots of VSTs, this 25-year-old has covered a lot of ground. And the grind continues because you will hear more from him on Nicki Minaj’s sophmore album as well as Rick Ross’ new album. His advice for new comers to the industry comes from a business perspective.
“Keep grinding and brand yourself,” he said. “And always pay attention to contracts.”

Bangladesh is the epitome of how to create your own sound and your own brand. Fourteen years in, he still remains relevant. From his first big single, “What’s Your Fantasy” with Ludacris, to his smash hit “A Milli” with Lil Wayne in ’08- Bangladesh still uses the first piece of equipment he ever brought to make beats- the MPC 2000 which he believes is extinct to the younger generations.
As a student of the game, Bangladesh said he admires Timberland, Organized Noise, Outkast, and Quincy Jones. Currently searching for a publishing of several M’s, this mad creative being said the game needs more creative minds and less money chasers.
“We’re in an era where chasing money comes before perfecting the craft,” he said. “You must develope your own sound because there are millions out here who think they can do this so there needs to be a line of separation. I still work about 14 hours a day to stay a head of the game- it’s hard work.”

Drumma Boy (and don’t spell his name wrong) is pretty interesting because- Drumma Boy doesn’t play the drums but got the name from his unique drum pattern on his beats. Coming from a musical background, mother was in the Opera and dad was in an orchestra, Drumma started making beats at 13 years old.
Growing up with exposure to Issac Hayes and Michael Jackson, then playing piano and saxophone, he had a clear cut idea of what he wanted to do in the music industry.
“As a kid I would go to concerts and become intrigued with the behind the scenes,” he said. “I always wanted to be the person in control of the music. I wanted to be the Beethoven- the composer- the writer.”
To date Drumma names “No Hands” by Waka Flocka ft. Wale and Roscoe Dash as his biggest hit. It was at position 30 and above on the billboard charts for over 60 weeks and had over 3 million ringtones sold. It also won him his first BET Hip Hop Award- “Best Club Banger”.
Drumma’s advice came from self inflection.
“Be yourself- don’t be the next Jazze Pha, the next Neptunes, or Drumma boy,” he said. “Find out what works for you. And be consistent because some producers are hot one year and then you don’t see them for a while.”
