While Beyoncé remains mute about the lip-sync controversy that has dogged her this week, her celebrity backers have been vocal on her behalf. Not to be outdone, Tyrese has added his big voice to the chorus of Team Bey supporters.

“If I was Beyoncé and it was as cold as it was outside and the whole world is watching, I would have lipsynced too,” Tyrese told Radio.com. “I don’t know if she was lip-syncing or not, that ain’t none of my business. If you think it’s easy to sing the National Anthem while the entire workd is looking, try it. A lot of people tend to make comments and throw stones when they don’t do what we do. Shut up. Try it yourself.”

When news broke that Beyoncé lip-synced the words to the “Star-Spangled Banner” at Monday’s inauguration of President Barack Obama ceremony, she became the center of attention.

“We performed, live, the band,” a spokesperson from the Marine Corp Band said in a statement. “But we received last-minute word that Beyoncé was going to use the pre-recorded vocal track. Those were the instructions we were given. We don’t know the reason why.”

Beyoncé came under more scrutiny when fans discovered that Kelly Clarkson, who sang “My Country ‘Tis Of Thee,” performed her set live.

Tyrese’s comments come after friends and admirers of Beyoncé rushed to her defense. Alicia Keys, Aretha Franklin [See video below] and more added their thoughts on the topic, giving Beyoncé a pass and a pat on the back. But Tyrese went a step further by challenging the critics.

“She is an amazing singer and she can sing live,” he said. “She has shown to us and proven to us a million times over that she can hold the note and hold all the right notes while she is live. If anybody wants to question the pedigree of Beyoncé Knowles you need to question yourself. That’s my response.”

Tyrese’s Open Invitation is nominated for a Best R&B Album GRAMMY. The 55th Annual GRAMMY Awards airs February 10th at 8:00 p.m. on [Radio.com parent] CBS.
