Midland City, AL (WVEE)  —  An autistic boy is being held hostage for a fourth day in rural Alabama.

The five-year-old is getting his medication but is crying for his parents.

Republican Rep. Steve Clouse, who represents the Midland City area, said he visited the boy’s mother Thursday and that she is “hanging on by a thread.”

“Everybody is praying with her for the boy,” he said.

Clouse said the mother told him that the boy has Asperger’s syndrome, an autism-like disorder, as well as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD. Police have been delivering medication to him through the pipe, he added.

Police say Jimmy Lee Dykes kidnapped the child after he shot and killed a school bus driver and pulled the boy from the bus.

Dykes has been holding the boy captive in an underground bunker since Tuesday.

Authorities have been negotiating with him through a PVC pipe.

The 65-year-old Dykes was due in court this week on a menacing charge.

He’s described by his neighbors as paranoid and threatening.

A funeral for the slain bus driver is set for Sunday.
