The relationship editor of Essence magazine, Charreah Jackson, stopped by to drop some knowledge on my midday listeners. She says there are seven important keys to dating like a pro. If your single and ready to mingle, you may want to brush up on these tips:

Prioritize Love

The same way you make time to pay your bills and go to work, you need to make sure that you are making time to invest in your romantic life. Set goals for your love life and keep them.

Make Room For A Relationship

Men and women can sense when you’re still carrying baggage from other relationships. Clean House! Make sure you have gotten rid of anyone or anything that may hinder you from moving forward in a new relationship.

Seek Your Compliment Not Your Clone

It’s true when they say that opposites attract. If you are looking for someone who is JUST LIKE YOU, that could be a recipe for disaster. Its better to find someone who compliments you and adds balance to your life.

Activate Your Calendar And Contacts

There is nothing wrong with telling friends and associates that you are single and ready to mingle. You tell them when your looking for a job, don’t you? There are six degrees of separation between people. Connect the dots and have everyone you know connecting the dots for you.

Work Your Flirt

You have to send signals that you are available, friendly and approachable. If your not getting asked out, ask yourself what kind of signals you are sending. No one wants to be rejected.

Communicate Early & Often

Be very clear and upfront about who you are and what you want. If you wait a year to reveal yourself then its just time wasted. Its better to know up front if the person you’re seeing is on the same page with you.

Discover Power Of Partnership

Two is better than one.  Find someone who is willing to do the work just as much as you are! Relationships take constant work. Also, its good to find someone you can build a life with. Are their fundamental values in line with yours?
