Sunday was not only Valentine’s Day, at Ebenezer Baptist Church, it was also “Love Day”. During the 11:00 am service, 30 married couples renewed their vows. In addition to the renewal service, Ebenezer pastor Reverend Raphael Warnock also presided over the wedding of a couple.
Just a short time later, the pastor was also saying “I do”.
In a statement, released just 2 days before the nuptials, Warnock said “my whole ministry has been about leading and loving in ways that embody the truths I preach about.” The statement went on to say “That takes on a whole new level this Sunday as I pledge my lifelong love commitment while leading others in doing the same.”
It was during Watch Night services, on January 1, 2016, that Warnock proposed to Ouleye Ndoye. She said ‘yes’. Sunday’s exchange of vows was followed by a reception, attended by their Ebenezer family and community members.
Ten years ago, when Warnock was named the 5th senior pastor of the church, known as “Martin Luther King Jr.’s Church”, he was 35, and single. That changed on Sunday.
