The 24 hour peaceful protest “A Call For Justice” continues outside the Fulton County Courthouse in downtown Atlanta. It started last night leading up to a grand jury convening today to consider the murder case against a former Atlanta police officer.
It was on the night of June 22, 2016 that APD officer James Burns shot and killed Caine Rogers outside an apartment complex near Monroe Drive. Police say they were investigating a car break-in when they came upon Rogers inside a car. Officer Burns claimed self defense, but after a review of video from the incident, APD Chief George Turner fired Burns. He is charged with felony murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and violation of his oath of office.
