By Larry Tinsley

Today on Sunday Morning Praise, Larry Tinsley pays tribute to a musical icon that made a big impact on gospel music. The legendary Joe Ligon from The Mighty Clouds of Joy passed away earlier this week. He was known for being a kind, and humble man of God who’s musical talent helped shape the gospel industry.

Ligon started his musical journey singing with The Mighty Clouds of Joy back in 1961. Since then, this legendary group sold millions of albums, performed in sold out shows, and were frequent performers at Esmond Patterson’s Annual Anniversary Show, which was held here in Atlanta. They also won Grammy’s, Stellar Awards and so much more. They are known for singing gospel hits such as  “I’ve Been in the Storm Too Long,” “Can’t Nobody Do Me Like Jesus,” and of course “Walk Around Heaven All Day.”

So in honor of Joe Ligon, we at V-103 and WAOK dedicate today’s show in his memory. May his soul rest peacefully in heaven, and his musical spirit remain in our hearts.
