AutoNSider Review | 2019 BMW X7 xDrive50i
The BMW X7 is the biggest BMW yet
If this Bad Boy isn’t King of THE Hill, the X7 is certainly king of something…and something BIG.
While there are vehicles out there that’ll climb steeper hills, BMW’s top-of-the-line X7 x Drive three-row SUV is a rare combination of speed, handling, technology, capability…plus a huge dose of comfort.
The X7 is all new for this year. It’s the biggest BMW yet. A three-row 6 or 7 passenger rapid transit machine.
As you’d imagine, the X7 comes in a couple of different “flavors”. An XDrive 40i starts things off in the mid $70’s. This’ll get you a 3.0 twin turbo 6 with 335 HP and a 0-60 time of 5.8 seconds. Not enough? Keep reading.
We got lucky and drove the 456 HP 4.4 twin turbo V-8. Whew! 0 – 60 in 5.2 seconds. All the acceleration you’ll ever need with virtually no turbo lag…and handling and brakes to match.
If price isn’t a consideration, it’s hard to imagine a better way to travel coast to coast. And hey…you should be able to average a not-too-bad 21 MPG on the road.
So if the X7’s six figure sticker isn’t an issue, congrats and jump in. You’ll love it!
And here’s just a few reasons why: Quilted heated and ventilated leather, 22” alloys, dynamic handling package that aids high speed cornering as well as parallel parking, air suspension, huge panoramic roof, rear window shades, automatic closing doors…and then those little touches that’ll make you glad you checked off on the options boxes the longer you keep your X7. Things like gesture control, massaging front seats, heated and cooled cup holders, and “M” series brakes and exhaust.
The M exhaust is a beautiful thing to hear, but the X7 is so well insulated…so quiet on the road…that you almost need to roll down a window to get the full effect of the engine crackle and burble. But that’s a pleasant decision to make, no?
It’s hard to imagine that anyone would need more than BMW’s new X7 xDrive 50i, but if you’re that one out of a million that still needs more, there’s a 523 HP M series headed our way shortly. Stay tuned!
